The upcoming (hopefully) Gears of War movie producer Wyck Godfrey recently sat down with Making Of to discuss the challenges of translating the epic video game from Xbox 360 to the big screen.
He hints that the film will begin shortly before Emergence Day, revealing the planet Sera firing on all cylinders and running smoothly. Then Emergence Day strikes and the world is turned upside down with the Locust Horde decimating every city in less than 24 hours.
Godfrey envisions the bulk of the film taking place in the one to two days after Emergence Day as survivors struggle to cope with the catastrophe and avoid the Locust Horde. It is here we will meet Marcus Fenix and other COG soldiers who form a resistance and strike back.
An interesting comparison Godfrey makes is to Cloverfield and how the film transitions from celebration to a surprise attack to the aftermath. Sounds like the right path to kick off what could potentially become a very successful film franchise to me.
