The Twilight Saga: Eclipse looked down upon the competition at the box office on Friday with an estimated take of $28.6 million. Its third day haul brings the cumulative total to an impressive $122.3 million and keeps the drive to reach $200 million in under a week alive.
M. Night Shyamalan’s The Last Airbender’s $16.6 million on Friday was only $300k more than it made on Thursday. With a budget over double that of Eclipse and combined marketing and production expenditures estimated to be north of $200 million, Paramount will be hoping for strong overseas business to keep the first in a proposed trilogy from sinking the franchise before it leaves the dock.
Rounding out the top 5 on Friday were Toy Story 3 with $10.5 million, Grown Ups with $6.9 million and Knight & Day with $3.4 million.
