First Look at Eric Stoltz as Marty McFly in Back to the Future

Michael J. Fox became a household name after starring as Marty McFly in Robert Zemeckis’ Back to the Future. As history reveals, Fox was not the first actor chosen for the role.

Eric Stoltz, who currently stars on SyFy’s Caprica, was five weeks into portraying Marty McFly when Zemeckis became concerned the actor’s scenes weren’t funny enough. He took his concern and recommendation to recast the role and subsequently reshoot all five week’s worth of work to executive producer Steven Spielberg. The two agreed, Zemeckis convinced the studio to make the change and the rest, as they say, is history.

Below is a first ever look at Stoltz in the McFly role as it appears on the upcoming Back to the Future Trilogy on Blu-ray Disc and DVD set, courtesy of THR. One glance from Stoltz is all it should take for you to see exactly what forced Zemeckis into making the switch.
