Hank Azaria has the daunting task in the upcoming The Smurfs feature film of having to be the “in the flesh” villain against strange little blue CGI creatures. He also must look the part which requires some heavy makeup and the infamous black robe.
The NY Post was able to snap a shot of Hank in full Gargamel mode while shooting The Smurfs in the city. I think he looks spot on perfect as the live-action version of the Smurfs’ nemesis. You can almost hear Azaria channeling the old sorcerer’s voice just by looking at that crazed expression.
The Smurfs also stars Neil Patrick Harris, Sofia Vergara and Jayma Mays (Glee) in the flesh, as well as the voices of Anton Yelchin (Clumsy Smurf), Katy Perry (Smurfette), Jonathan Winters (Papa Smurf), Fred Armisen (Brainy Smurf), George Lopez (Grouchy Smurf and Alan Cumming (Gutsy Smurf). It will arrive in theaters on July 29, 2011.
