One of the first-person shooters sure to make headlines in 2008 is Borderlands, the latest project from Gearbox Software coming to Xbox 360, Playstation 3 and the PC. 2K Games gobbled up the publishing rights last fall, surely hoping for another sleeper hit along the lines of BioShock.
While Borderlands should be a solid game, we have a hard time believing its futuristic Mad-Maxian world and four-player co-op are enough to separate it from the already overcrowded FPS field. By the time it hits stores towards the end of this year, gamers will be buried in Killzone and other higher profile titles.

Then again, Gearbox could surprise us and redefine the tired FPS genre with secret Borderlands gameplay elements they’ve kept buried in their own internal borderland for the time being. Too bad we don’t have Mad Max to send in and get the full scoop.
