EA Sticking by Tiger Woods… For Now

While other sponsorship deals with Tiger Woods are being dialed back or in the case of AT&T outright terminated, Electronic Arts is the first company to stay the course. At least for now.

EA Sports president Peter Moore announced on the EA Sports blog that the upcoming planned Tiger Woods online golf game is moving forward as planned and will retain Tiger’s brand image and name. The game will initially be released as free-to-play but will eventually move to a paid subscription model.

“Our relationship with Tiger has always been rooted in golf,” Moore wrote. “We didn’t form a relationship with him so that he could act as an arm’s length endorser.

Moore stopped short of addressing the future of the Tiger Woods PGA Tour video games for Xbox 360, PS3, Wii and the PC which would normally be scheduled for release this summer. Their fate may rest in the hands of how the online Tiger Woods game fares despite the golfer’s tarnished image.
