EA Confirms Dead Space Coming to Nintendo Wii in “Extraction”

Electronic Arts has formally announced the Dead Space franchise is coming to Nintendo Wii and is being built from the ground up to take full advantage of Wii’s control scheme.

The title, dubbed Dead Space Extraction, is a prequel to the PS3 and Xbox 360 game Dead Space depicting the events leading up to the horror on the USG Ishimura.

The story is described as focusing on “…a handful of space colonists desperately struggling to escape from a horrific infection on the Aegis VII mining colony deep in the furthest regions of space.”

A new heroine is set to be introduced that may have a role in confirmed cooperative gameplay, a feature the original Dead Space was devoid of. EA also promises “new characters, weapons, enemies and puzzles.”

Dead Space Extraction is tentatively scheduled to arrive in stores this Fall. We’ll pass along the first assets once available to see how far EA Redwood Shores can push the game’s visuals on the Wii.
