The exact release date for Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland on Blu-ray Disc has been rumored to fall anywhere between May 25 and June 29. At this time I do not have that date to share, but can I tell you how Disney is packaging up the battle between the Red and White Queens.
There will be three editions of Alice in Wonderland released to home video: a single-disc Blu-ray, a three-disc Blu-ray and a single-disc DVD. The only difference between the single and three-disc Blu-ray editions will be a DVD version of the film on disc two (the same one being released separately) and a digital copy on disc three. The bonus features will be identical.
The DVD edition will include a trio of bonus features: Mad Hatter, Finding Alice and Effecting Wonderland. Those are only a small sampling of the featurettes included on the Blu-ray edition, broken down into two sections as outlined below:
- Wonderland Characters
- Finding Alice
- The Mad Hatter
- The Futterwacken Dance
- The Red Queen
- Time-Lapse: Sculpting the Red Queen
- The White Queen
- Making Wonderland
- Scoring Wonderland
- Effecting Wonderland
- Stunts of Wonderland
- Making The Proper Size
- Cakes of Wonderland
- Tea Party Props
It is curious to note that there is no theatrical trailer or commentaries for this release. This is likely due to a combination of the trailers touting 3D – which this particular home video version does not support – and the short window between theatrical and home video release which Disney is promoting to retailers (see the single and three-disc covers below).
