Marvel Studios began principal photography on Captain America: The Winter Soldier today in Los Angeles California. The production will eventually move to Cleveland, Ohio and then wrap up in Washington, D.C.
Along with the production notice comes the first official behind-the-scenes image from the film (see below) along with a brief synopsis and finalized cast listing. There are no surprised in the cast list, but it is interesting to see how involved Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) will potentially be involved with the plot.
The synopsis reads, “Steve Rogers struggles to embrace his role in the modern world and teams up with Natasha Romanoff, aka Black Widow, to battle a powerful yet shadowy enemy in present-day Washington, D.C.”
The official cast list is Chris Evans as Steve Rogers/Captain America, Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow, Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, Robert Redford as senior S.H.I.E.L.D. leader and agent Alexander Pierce, Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier, Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson/Falcon, Cobie Smulders as Agent Maria Hill, Frank Grillo as Brock Rumlow, Georges St-Pierre as Georges Batroc, Hayley Atwell as Peggy Carter, Toby Jones as Arnim Zola, Emily VanCamp as Agent 13 and Maximiliano Hernandez as Agent Jasper Sitwell.
Stan, Atwell and Jones all appeared in Captain America: The First Avenger. Johansson, Jackson, Hernandez and Hill are all vets of The Avengers.
Captain America: The Winter Soldier will be the third of five films that comprise Marvel’s Cinematic Universe Phase 2 when it releases on April 4, 2014.
