G4 got some face time with Capcom’s VP of strategic planning and business development Christian Svensson at CES last week and was able to pry out some new information regarding Capcom’s plans for Microsoft’s Project Natal on Xbox 360.
After confirming that Capcom is working on “stuff” for Natal, Svensson opened up a little by narrowing down what that “stuff” might be. “I think you’ll see again a brand focus on what we’re doing there [on Natal], perhaps a brand we haven’t seen in a while,” he said. “That’s exciting.”
Svensson goes on to confirm that game is being built from the ground up and is not a gimmick addition to an existing game ala retrofitting Resident Evil 5 on PS3 to take advantage of the upcoming PS3 Motion Wand accessory. Whatever the game is, it will be hardcore and probably will not be ready for the Natal launch this holiday season.
Capcom franchises that immediately come to my mind that would work well as a fighting game on Natal are Double Dragon, Mega Man, Castlevania and Street Fighter. If it’s a brand we haven’t seen in awhile then the front-runners have to be Mega Man and Double Dragon.
