Breaking Dawn Crosses $500 Million Worldwide in Under Two Weeks

Breaking Dawn Crosses $500 Million Worldwide in Under Two WeeksThe Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1 has crossed the $500 million mark at the worldwide box office per an announcement by Summit Entertainment.

In just 12 days, the further supernatural adventures of Bella (Kristen Stewart), Edward (Robert Pattinson) and Jacob (Taylor Lautner) has hauled in $508 million business. Approximately $233 million of the total comes from North America where Breaking Dawn dominated the box office through the long Thanksgiving holiday weekend.

The previous Twilight film, Eclipse, ended its theatrical run with just over $698 million in worldwide business. It still remains to be seen whether Breaking Dawn will surpass that mark.

For Summit Entertainment, the success of this first Breaking Dawn installment is proving that splitting the final Stephanie Meyer book into two films was a wise business decision. Assuming The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2 tops $500 million, and it should, then what could have been one final film will earn more than $1 billion at the worldwide box office as two.

The second Breaking Dawn installment arrives in theaters on November 16, 2012.
