Tom Hardy’s role in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises has been a hot topic of discussion since the news broke that he had been cast in the film. There’s been a lot of speculation, and now there’s a rumor from an unknown source with a reported spot-on track record.
A scooper told Batman-News that Hardy will play the villain Hugo Strange. In the comics, this character wears thick coke-bottle glasses and is well versed in psychology and chemistry. After discovering who Batman really is, he becomes obsessed with replacing Bruce Wayne as the famed crime fighter. Sounds like just the type of reality-grounded character Nolan prefers for his Batman universe.
This source apparently had the inside track on Natalie Portman being looked at for a role in the film as well as The Riddler not appearing. Even so, treat this possible Tom Hardy character as nothing more than a rumor for now.
