Back to the Future Trilogy Blu-ray Release Date, Details and Cover Art

Great Scott! Back in early June I alerted you that Universal Canada had big plans to bring Back to the Future to Blu-ray later this year. Right on cue, Universal Studios Home Entertainment issued a press announcement early this morning that officially confirms the Back to the Future Trilogy will make its Blu-ray debut on October 26.

Back to the Future starring Michael J. Fox, Christopher Lloyd, Crispin Glover and Lea Thompson marks its 25th anniversary on July 3, 2010 which is why the trilogy being made available again this year. The 25th anniversary celebration box set on Blu-ray and DVD will be sold exclusively as a set in the U.S. though other territories might be offered the three films as singles (as the Canada scoop indicated was at least planned).

Back to the Future, Back to Future II and Back to the Future III will be presented on Blu-ray in 1.85:1 1080p video and 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio. It will include over two hours of new bonus features wrapped into a six-part documentary detailed below.

  • BD Exclusive: Archival Featurette Back to the Future Night: Hosted by Leslie Nielson, this original 30-minute special aired on NBC prior to the first television screening of the Back to the Future.
  • NEW: Tales from the Future: New six-part retrospective documentary featuring interviews with Michael J. Fox, Christopher Lloyd, Lea Thompson, Director Robert Zemeckis, Producers Bob Gale and Neil Canton, plus Executive Producer Steven Spielberg.
