Ubisoft broke the silence today and finally announced Assassin’s Creed Unity is the next game in the franchise, and it is coming later this year exclusively to Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC. That’s right; this game is being built from the ground up specifically for next-gen machines.
Ubisoft states with the announcement that they have been working on Unity for more than three years and that what you see in the trailer below represents the “first official footage from the game.” As expected the footage is extremely polished and set in a world far removed from the pirate plundering of Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag.
Judging by the trailer that features Parisian streets, Notre Dame and a guillotine execution in a public square, Assassin’s Creed Unity is set within the French Revoution that occured between 1789 and 1799. Louis XVI knows a thing about the guillotine, as do several other notable French names who found themselves positioned under its blade.
