Gearbox’s Aliens: Colonial Marines game for PS3 and Xbox 360 seems more like a legend or myth than something tangible anymore. I’ve lost track of how long this game has supposedly been in development and publisher SEGA has shown little interest in updating anyone about its status.
SEGA is more than happy to chat about Rebellion’s upcoming Aliens vs. Predator game which leapfrogged Colonial Marines. In fact, they are counting on it to succeed before thinking about when to schedule the Aliens game.
“I think the detail of that [release date] is probably still too early,” offered SEGA president and COO Mike Hayes to G4TV. “What I would say is it’s unlikely that we’d launch anything within six months [after Aliens vs. Predator], but probably nine months, eight to 12 months possibly. Though we literally are looking at that at the moment and a lot of is going to depend, as well, on how successful AvP is at the box [retail].”
With those remarks we still don’t know when Aliens: Colonial Marines is coming out, how complete it is, and if Gearbox is even working on it anymore. It’s not “game over, man!” yet for Colonial Marines, but the pause button is firmly pressed and everyone wanting this game, myself included, grow increasingly impatient.
