Last week it was believed Alex Pettyfer had walked away from Sony Screen Gems who was courting him for a starring role in Mortal Instruments theatrical adaptation from the best-selling young adult book series. He had reportedly signed on with a different young adult book-to-movie project, The Last Apprentice, and that was that.
Yesterday THR ran a piece about some troubles Pettyfer caused during the production of I Am Number Four, the big young adult sci-fi thriller he stars in that opens a week from tomorrow. In the piece Screen Gems reportedly told THR that Pettyfer is still being courted for Mortal Instruments which would infer he hasn’t closed a deal with Legendary Pictures for The Young Apprentice just yet. He’s also been mentioned as a contender for a lead role in Lionsgate’s big upcoming adaptation of The Hunger Games.
One of the trouble points THR points out is Pettyfer and his team reportedly requested close to $10 million to star in Mortal Instruments which drew outrage from the studio. Keep in mind Pettyfer has yet to prove he can pull in big box office numbers.
Sony still has a public notice up looking for the male lead of Jace Wayland in Mortal Instruments, the same role Pettyfer is being courted for. They must not be confident a deal with Pettyfer will be reached.
