Tony Hawk is returning in a big way later this year and I don’t mean the level size you’ll get to skate around in.
Activision has begun teasing the next entry of Tony Hawk dubbed “Ride” which will take the series in a new peripheral-oriented direction. That’s right; Tony Hawk Ride comes with a full scale skateboard peripheral that will be unveiled in playable form at E3 on June 2.
Activision is no stranger to supporting peripheral games with the Guitar Hero franchise and Nintendo has already proven a board accessory can be successful with the Wii Balance Board. What’s unique about the Ride skateboard peripheral is, in additional to looking 1000x cooler than the Wii Balance Board as previewed below, the idea of using it with the more powerful graphics that will be seen on PS3 and Xbox 360.
Tony Hawk Ride will also be available on Nintendo Wii which crosses into Balance Board territory. It will be interesting to see if a standalone version sans skateboard peripheral will be made available exclusively for Wii that is compatible with the Balance Board.
