‘Terminator 2: Judgment Day’ Returns To Theaters With 3D Release

In the summer of 1991, Terminator 2: Judgment Day ruled the box office. The long awaited sequel brought back Linda Hamilton as Sarah Connor, Arnold Schwarzenegger as the T-800 Terminator, and James Cameron, the series’ creator, and featured a new song by the biggest rock band in the world at the time, Guns ‘n Roses. The film utilized cutting edge technology in essentially creating a villain made of liquid metal (Robert Patrick), and went on to win four Academy Awards for it. Everything was bigger and badder in T2, and audiences ate it up to the tune of over $500 million in world wide box office numbers — in 1991!

Now, the seminal classic sequel is coming back to theaters exclusively to AMC, with a brand new 3D cut, and some tweaks overseen by James Cameron himself. Cameron, who revolutionized the 3D technology with Avatar, still the biggest box office success ever, is bringing that technology to Terminator 2 3D, and fans will get a chance to see the 26-year-old film in a new way — and in a new dimension.

Terminator 2: Judgment Day 3D

Terminator 2: Judgment Day is the story of Sarah Connor (Hamilton) who is preparing for the coming war with Skynet, a computer program that overthrows mankind, and she is teaching her son, John (Edward Furlong) how to be the leader she knows he is destined to be. When Skynet sends a new Terminator model, the T-1000 (Patrick) back in time to kill the Connors, the adult John Connor from the future sends back a decommissioned and reprogrammed T-800 (Schwarzenegger) to serves as John’s protector.

Some of the most iconic scenes in Hollywood history, such as the liquid metallic T-1000 walking through the explosion of the tanker truck, are from Terminator 2, and now those scenes will have the depth of field created by 3D technology. For fans of the film, and for a new generation of fans who have never seen T2 in theaters, AMC and James Cameron are giving them a golden opportunity to see a classic sci-fi action film truly like never before. The screenings are exclusive to the AMC Theaters chain, and a list of locations that will be showing the film in 3D can be found here.

Terminator 2: Judgment Day 3D

Terminator 2: Judgment Day 3D begins its run on August 25, exclusively at AMC Theaters. If you never seen the film on the big screen, or even if you were there back in July of 1991, you’ve still never seen the film like this. And with the not-so-great sequels to the Terminator franchise tarnishing the power and thrills of the first two films, there is no better time to revisit an absolute classic.

Terminator 2: Judgment Day 3D is in AMC theaters on August 25.
