Orlando Bloom Boards Pirates of the Caribbean 5; Johnny Depp as Jack Sparrow Crashes D23

Johnny Depp crashed D23 in full Jack Sparrow mode to share a few new announcements along with Sean Bailey, President of Walt Disney Studios Motion Picture Production, about Pirates of the Caribbean 5, or the more official longer name of Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales. Depp also threw grapes into the audience and mingled with Harrison Ford backstage in full Sparrow regalia as only he could.

The big news delivered is that Orlando Bloom is returning to the franchise as Will Turner after taking the fourth film off. Bloom wasn’t on hand for the announcement but he’s definitely a go to return to fight alongside Captain Jack Sparrow once more.

Also unveiled was a new Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales logo as seen above, and an official synopsis that reads as follows:

Thrust into an all-new adventure, a down-on-his-luck Captain Jack Sparrow finds the winds of ill-fortune blowing even more strongly when deadly ghost pirates led by his old nemesis, the terrifying Captain Salazar (Javier Bardem), escape from the Devil’s Triangle, determined to kill every pirate at sea…including him.  Captain Jack’s only hope of survival lies in seeking out the legendary Trident of Poseidon, a powerful artifact that bestows upon its possessor total control over the seas.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales is directed by the duo of Espen Sandberg & Joachim Rønning, and will sail into theaters on July 7, 2017.
