Guardians of the Galaxy Extended Trailer Reveals Michael Rooker as Yondu

Last night Marvel screened 17 minutes of director James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy in IMAX 3D around the country. The idea behind the screenings was to drum up additional interest and word of mouth for what is their most creatively ambitious and risky film in Cinematic Universe to date.

Shortly after the preview completed, Marvel offered everyone not in attendance at the free Guardians of the Galaxy preview event the opportunity to watch a new extended trailer online (see it below) via Fandango to help drum up ticket pre-sales. The trailer splices together footage from previous trailers with all new bits and parts, including more of Rocket Raccoon talking and Groot being, well, Groot.

When the trailer looks like it’s about to end, a scene involving the Guardians and Rocket’s “fake laugh” plays out. This version of the scene runs much longer than what we’ve seen before and injects more humor in the form of Groot’s preferred snack during a serious conversation.

Another montage of footage follows this scene and introduces the first official look at Michael Rooker as Yondu. I say official because leaked pics from the set already spoiled the all-blue makeup, but you get a much clearer look here with well-timed use of the “pause” button.

Guardians of the Galaxy stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Batista, Lee Pace, Karen Gillan, and the voices of Bradley Cooper and Vin Diesel. It takes flight in theaters everywhere on August 1.
