Ghostbusters Reboot Cast and Release Date Have Finally Arrived

The Ghostbusters reboot cast has been revealed and resembles a Saturday Night Live reunion. Additionally, Sony has announced a release date for the all-female Ghostbusters to be directed by Paul Feig.

Per The Hollywood Reporter, Melissa McCarthy leads the new Ghostbusters cast to confirm a rumor that started a couple weeks ago suggesting she was in negotiations for one of the four female ghostbusting roles. Expect McCarthy to play a smart-ass New Yorker in the vein of Bill Murray’s Peter Venkman if her purely comedic resume is any indication.

Currently in negotiations and likely joining McCarthy on the Ghostbusters remake is her Bridesmaids co-star Kristen Wiig, along with current Saturday Night Live castmembers Leslie Jones and Emmy-nominated Kate McKinnon.

Feig worked with McCarthy and Wiig previously on Bridesmaids and the Internet is already up in arms claiming the new Ghostbusters will be Bridesmaids with a supernatural twist. That contradicts earlier comments by Feig suggesting that while comedy will play a role in the film, he’s aiming for it to be a bit edgier and scarier than the original classic.

With the core cast in place, you can go ahead and circle July 22, 2016 as the Ghostbusters release date. Sony made that date official via Twitter today and the image you see above was taken directly from the tweet.
