“They brought the war to us.” That quote from the Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice trailer and TV spots has become an unofficial tag line for the upcoming DC Films release. It also perfectly sums up the latest image released by the Batman v Superman marketing team on social media Wednesday evening.
By “they” Bruce Wayne (Ben Affleck) is referring to Batman (Henry Cavill) and Zod, or more specifically the destruction and carnage caused by the Kryptonian battle across Manhattan in Man of Steel’s final act. Bruce has no tolerance for the threat posed by aliens and he’s taken what they’re capable of as a personal attack.
As the image below clearly depicts, Wayne can be seen mourning in front of a crashed Wayne Financial sign for one of his buildings in Metropolis. The image evokes memories of 9/11 when the World Trade Center towers fell with steel bent into every direction and dust littering the air.
