Respawn Entertainment took the stage at Star Wars Celebration in Chicago earlier today and began unwrapping the mystery box surrounding Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order.
We learned the upcoming AAA video game is set after Emperor Palpatine sends the command to “execute Order 66”. What few remaining Jedi survived the purge are being sought out and exterminated by Inquisitors and their Purge Troopers — a new type of trooper created for this game — all under the instruction of Darth Vader.
Gotham and Shameless star Cameron Monaghan plays Cal Kestis, a young Jedi Padawan who survived Order 66.
At the game’s onset Cal has blended in with society on the planet Braka as a salvager and hidden his Force abilities from those around him as to not draw suspicion from the Empire. As the reveal trailer below suggests, an accident during a salvaging operation outs his status and forces him on the run.
Joining Cal on his adventure are his trusty droid, BD-1, who will be voiced by Star Wars sound veteran Ben Burtt. BD-1 is described as being more like an equal to Cal and not a companion. In addition to useful tools like a spotlight, BD-1 will receive upgrades as the game progresses.
Cal will also learn from a former Jedi Master played by Debra Wilson, and cross paths with other characters that remain under wraps.
Respawn was clear in pointing out that Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is not a melee combat game but instead employs what they’re calling “thoughtful combat.” It will be both easy to pick up for new users but also offers great depth and mastery for more experienced players.
Unfortunately no gameplay was revealed so what exactly that combat looks like remains to be seen. The next reveal opportunity will be E3 in June.
Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is a third-person single-player game with no micro-transactions. It will be available on November 15th for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC. There will be no Nintendo Switch version, most likely due to the hardware requirements.
