Pre-orders have officially gone live for the first Sony 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray titles that include The Pineapple Express, The Amazing Spider-Man 2, The Smurfs 2, Chappie, Salt and Hancock.
Amazon has set pricing for this first wave of Sony 4K UHD Blu-ray titles at $32.39 based off an SRP of $35.99. I would expect the Amazon price to trend lower closer to the release date, most likely somewhere in the neighborhood of $27 or $28.
Each of the six Sony 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray launch titles also includes the movie on Blu-ray. A Digital Copy is not included, unlike the Fox and Lionsgate 4K UHD Blu-rays that will include a Digital Copy. Sony may choose to include a Digital Copy in post-launch titles. We’ll have to wait and find out.
Amazon’s listings for these Sony 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray titles does not include a release date. The presumption is that they’ll arrive in stores on March 1, the official launch date for the new home video format. Right now that release date is unconfirmed.
I’ve reached out to the studio for additional information on these titles such as the audio format and will report back once those questions are answered.
