Somewhere in a galaxy not so far, far away, a young actor will step into the role of a young Han Solo made famous by Harrison Ford for the Untitled Star Wars Han Solo Anthology film. Even though Star Wars: The Force Awakens is mere weeks from release, the search for the scruffy looking scoundrel is already well underway.
THR is reporting that Disney and Lucasfilm have taken an all hands on deck approach to casting young Han Solo. Rather than restrict the casting call to relative unknowns or a short list, actors ranging from household names to the other end of the spectrum have been invited to audition or at the very least send in a tape.
Before getting into the names that THR has confirmed to either have auditioned or submitted an audition tape, I want to once again point out that Anthony Ingruber is absolutely ideal to take the torch from Harrison Ford. He already played the part of young Ford in The Age of Adaline and nailed it, and this 2008 impression video from YouTube cements his natural Ford looks, voice and charisma.
It could be that Ingruber is already on a short list and Lucasfilm along with the casting director Jeanne McCarthy and directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller are merely being thorough. I have a hard time imagining Ingruber is not already on their radar in some respect, even if he’s set to turn 26 next year. Ford was 35 when Star Wars: A New Hope came out.
