RoboCop Remale Trailer Dresses Joel Kinnaman in Black

RoboCop Remale Trailer Dresses Joel Kinnaman in BlackSamuel L. Jackson wants to know why Americans are so “RoboPhobic” in the all-new trailer for Sony’s RoboCop remake from director Jose Padilha and starring Joel Kinnaman. Robots are policing the cities of the world outside the U.S. and keeping them safe and violence free. Maybe America needs a different kind of product to assauge fears about a Terminator-like takeover.

The answer, as proposed by Michael Keaton’s character, is to deliver a product with a conscience by putting a man inside a machine. When Detroit police officer Alex Murphy gets partially blown up in front of his house, the perfect subject to fuse with technology is presented on a silver platter.

Unlike the original RoboCop, this new generation one is far more agile and can even leap several stories off a building and land Iron Man-style on the concrete below. That shot looks a little too similar to Iron Man, but there’s plenty of other action beats hinted at including a fight with modernized ED-209 in presumably OmniCorp’s headquarters.

There are nods to the original silver and chrome RoboCop design in what is presumably a first or second version of the armor before Keaton’s character exclaims, “let’s go for black.” I personally prefer the silver.

RoboCop also stars Gary Oldman, Abbie Cornish, Jackie Earle Haley, Michael K. Williams, Jennifer Ehle and Jay Baruchel, and will arrive in theaters on February 12, 2014.
