Update: It’s official – The PS4 release date in North America is Friday, November 15. In Europe the PS4 release date is November 29.
There are few secrets left regarding Sony’s PlayStation 4 gaming console. The most elusive and to this day unknown is the PS4 release date, but that will change early next week.
On Tuesday, August 20 at 2pm EST/11am PST, Sony will be holding their annual Gamescom press conference in Cologne, Germany. This press conference is a little more special than the past several as it marks Sony’s final big stage before the release of PlayStation 4 this November.
A couple days ago Sony teased that they would be revealed the full PS4 release plans during the press conference. They have since reworded that statement, but not before the word got out. Sony will, in fact reveal the PS4 release date during their Gamescom press conference. My prediction is the PS4 release date will be Friday, November 15.
PS4 has been available to pre-order at multiple online outlets since the price was revealed at E3 in early June. Launch day guaranteed PS4 consoles have completely sold out, including a quartet of Amazon.com PS4 bundles that came back in stock and then sold out again about a week ago.
There are rumors that Walmart will begin taking in-store PS4 pre-orders on Saturday, August 24. These would be for launch day consoles but are likely to dry up extremely quickly. It may be worth giving your local Walmart a call in a week to get the full scoop.
You can still pre-order a PS4 at Amazon.com and it will be delivered before the end of the year, but it’s unclear exactly when the console will ship. It could be two days after the PS4 release date or two weeks. No one knows.
We will know the PS4 release date in just a few days, and probably get a new PS Vita and PS4 game announcement the same time. The Sony Gamescom press conference will be live streamed and we’ll pass along access to the video just before it starts.
