New 3DS colors were an inevitability and at lease one was expected to appear for this holiday shopping season. I didn’t expect one in less than a month from now, and that’s exactly what Nintendo is delivering.
This morning, Nintendo announced a new Flame Red 3DS will go on sale September 9 for the new 3DS price of $169.99. That’s the same day Star Fox 64 3D will arrive in stores, the first of several highly-anticipated first-party Nintendo 3DS games due this holiday season.
This holiday should be big for Nintendo, even without the roll out of Wii U. In addition to the new lower 3DS price, Sony has delayed the North American launch of Vita into 2012. The only competition 3DS will be up against in the portable gaming category are the outdated PSP and DS models, and cell phones/tablet computers that aren’t exactly kid friendly.
The Flame Red 3DS should help broaden the appeal for girls who may not be as receptive to the more masculine black and aqua blue models currently available.
