Paula Malcomson Joins The Hunger Games, John C. Reilly Offered Role

Paula Malcomson has been officially cast as Katniss and Primrose’s mother in Lionsgate’s The Hunger Games movie.

Paula’s name may not be recognizable but her face should spark the memory of science fiction fans. She played Amanda Graystone in Syfy’s Battlestar Galactica prequel ‘Caprica’ and showed up on an episode of Fox’s ‘Fringe’ about a month ago.

Additionally, Vulture is reporting that John C. Reilly has been offered the role of Haymitch Abernathy, an alcoholic ex-combatant who is the only person from District 12 to ever win The Hunger Games. It will be his responsibility to train Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) and Petta Mellark (Josh Hutcherson).

The Hunger Games also stars Liam Hemsworth, Leven Rambin, Amandla Stenberg, Dayo Okeniyi, Jack Quaid, Elizabeth Banks, and Willow Shields as Primrose. Gary Ross is directing the film based on Suzanne Collins’ bestselling book. The theatrical release date for the first of three planned films is March 23, 2012.
