Moviegoers weren’t quite as interested in being creeped out on Sunday as Paramount’s Paranormal Activity 2 slipped in its final results from an estimated $41.5 million to $40.67 million. That’s still an incredible opening for an R-rated horror film, the best ever depending on how you classify Shutter Island (which opened to $41 million even).
Elsewhere in the weekend box office actual results, Hereafter picked up steam through the weekend and nailed its estimate of $12 million through Sunday. Clint Eastwood’s look at the afterlife may find an extended life like other 25+ targeted releases such as Red, down only 31% this weekend, and Secretariat, down a mere 25%.
In our Box Office Prophet Game, the Prophet finally fell 2-3 after weeks upon weeks of triumphs over the players. Arctic00 played an impressive round by missing all five eligible films by a combined $5.8 million and will take home the huge jackpot prize.
