Jason Momoa from Stargate Atlantis has landed the coveted role playing Conan the Barbarian in the upcoming remake from Millennium Films, Lionsgate, and rights holder Paradox Entertainment.
The brawny actor beat out Kellan Lutz from Twilight, The Twilight Saga: New Moon and Twilight Saga: Eclipse for the role after impressing Marcus Nispel with his ability to channel Arnold Schwarzenegger with his sword skills. He can thank the writers of Stargate Atlantis for allowing his Ronon Dex character to polish those fighting skills over the past several years.
I was initially critical of Jason when Deadline Hollywood first broke the news that he and Kellan were the last men standing for the job. A reader backlash quickly ensued and offered some evidence that Jason is more than capable of pulling off the barbarian warrior’s moves that helped kick-start Arnold’s career. I still think he needs to beef up some, though, which I am sure he is already hard at work on.
