‘SOCOM: Confrontation’ PS3 Details, 30 New Screens

Sony Computer Entertainment has revealed gameplay details/features and a massive batch of 30 all-new screenshots for the Playstation 3 debut of SOCOM.

In SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs Confrontation, players will engage in strictly multiplayer gameplay ala Warhawk. Tournaments, Clan Ladders and Leader Boards will be emphasized in up to 32-player battles on 7 highly detailed maps, 5 of which are scalable for 8, 16 and 32 players in night or day modes. The most popular SOCOM map from previous games, Crossroads, is included and been upgraded to support 32 players.

The move from PS2 to PS3 has opened up room for developer Slant Six Games to create an all-new engine built for PS3 with advanced physics, lighting and ballistics including penetration modeling.

Customization options for five different types of special force units: United States Navy SEALs, Special Air Service (SAS, United Kingdom), Kommando Spezialkräfte (KSK, Germany), Unidad de Operaciones Especiales (UOE, Spain), 1er Régiment de Parachutistes d”Infanterie de Marine (1er RPIMa, France), will include facial and camo customization as well as load outs and gear, including weapons modifications.

Every game mode from previous SOCOM games is included along with a couple new ones to total 7. Confrontation will include full Dual Shock 3 support and advanced voice communication systems. No word on whether it will include a headset or not.

Look for SOCOM: Confrontation for Playstation 3 in stores on or around September 16, with themed packs containing new Special Forces, weapons, maps and features available for purchase and download afterwards.
