Multiplayer mode(s) in Nintendo’s upcoming 3DS exclusive Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon have been on the verge of being outed since Nintendo’s own website made mention of local multiplayer play in the game’s description. Today the big “N” finally made it official, and backed up their announcement with some fresh new screens and a trailer.
Up to four players in different colored Luigi outfits can band together Ghostbusters-style and enter the Scare Scraper to participate in Hunter Mode, the only confirmed multiplayer mode at this time. In this mode, players are tasked with clearing ghosts from floors of a tower one-by-one until all the ghosts are gone. The catch is the tower must be vanquished of ghosts before a timer runs out, and boss battles await at the top of each tower.
Hunter Mode allows players to choose between five, 10 or 25 floors to clear, as well as selecting a difficulty level. How well a team works together to clear floors will determine if bonuses and upgrades are awarded. To make sure no Luigi is left out, a fallen Luigi can be revived by a teammate at any time.
