‘Guitar Hero World Tour’ Unveiled for Xbox 360, PS3, Wii; First Screens

Activision has revealed the first details, name and screenshots for this upcoming holiday season’s fourth Guitar Hero game, titled Guitar Hero World tour. The game is being developed for Xbox 360, Playstation 3, Playstation 2 and Nintendo Wii.

Taking a cue from MTV and Harmonix’s Rock Band, developer Neversoft has added a vocal and drum component to the Guitar Hero franchise that will debut in World Tour. Taking drum peripheral design to the next level, this new kit will include three drum pads, two raised cymbals and a bass kick pedal to deliver “larger and quieter, velocity-sensitive drum heads with soft rubber construction with authentic bounce back.”

Players who get the creative itch will be able to compose and mix their own songs in the new Music Studio using all four instruments: drums, guitar, bass and vocals. Once recorded, songs can be uploaded and shared via GHTunes.

Big name acts slated to lend songs include Van Halen, Linkin Park, The Eagles and Sublime. Local acts created using the Music Studio will be able to customize their appearance, instruments and album covers.

Online play will take advantage of the new instruments by offering 8-player Battle of the Bands mode. In this mode, two bands of four players each will go head-to-head via Xbox Live, the Playstation Network, or Wii Connect.

Activision has not mentioned a release date for Guitar Hero World Tour, so the best time frame we can offer is this upcoming holiday season.
