Last week we got our hands on the code for the Golden Lancer weapon in Gears of War 2 from the Limited Edition set and took some snapshots of the gleaming rifle in action.
This week I’ve managed to get a hold of a code for the much rarer Golden Hammerburst gun. These codes were only distributed at GameStop during the midnight madness event for the Gears of War 2 Xbox 360 game launch.
The 25-digit code is entered like any other redemption code via the Xbox Live Marketplace blade, at least for another week until the NXE (New Xbox Experience) interfaced is launched.
Once the 108kb file is downloaded, the Golden Hammerburst, like the Golden Lancer, becomes available in all multiplayer modes including Horde and training which can be played offline.
Below are some pics of myself installing and checking out the Golden Hammerburst in Gears of War 2. These pics were shot of Gears of War 2 on an Xbox 360 Elite connected via HDMI on my 112″ front projection system used for reviewing games and Blu-ray films at a resolution of 1080p. They aren’t perfect given the lighting and movement challenges, as well as my rudimentary photo skills, so please excuse the varying clarity. One particularly blurry shot was included to show the Hammerburst sheathed on a player’s back.
Golden Hammerburst codes have become a collectors item for Gears of War 2 owners, much like COG tags or unlockable collectibles. They’ve already started showing up on secondary markets including Craigslist and Ebay.
