Sherlock Season 4 Release Date in 2014 with Additional Special Episode

The game is on once again as BBC announced today the Sherlock Season 4 release date will fall in 2015 and the next season will pack more of Sherlock and Watson than any season before it.

Production on Season 4 of Sherlock, or Sherlock Series 4 depending on what side of the Atlantic Ocean you live on, is scheduled to begin in January 2015 with what BBC has dubbed a “special” episode. This could be considered the fourth episode of the season, and it will premiere before the traditional three-episode set that will be produced and released later that year.

“A special, plus a new series of three episodes —  it’s a record-breaking run,” stated showrunner, co-creator and writer Steven Moffat in the official announcement. “Of course, it’s far too early to say what’s coming, but we’re reasonably confident that the very next thing to happen to Sherlock (Benedict Cumberbatch) and John (Martin Freeman), is the very last thing you’d expect…”

Added co-creator and writer Mark Gattis, “Series Four! At last! It’s always special to return to Sherlock but this time it’s even more special as we’re doing… a Special! Not only that, we’ll then be shooting three more episodes which will take Sherlock and John Watson into deeper and darker water than ever before. The whole Sherlock team are terrifically excited to return for four new adventures. The Game is on — again!”

The precise Sherlock Season 4 premiere date on PBS in the U.S. and BBC in the U.K. will be announced at a later date.
