High definition episodes of HBO’s Sex and the City are now playing exclusively on HBO Max.
A team scanned the original film elements at 4K resolution for every episode over the past year to create new HD masters.
This remastering process will also deliver Sex and the City episodes in the 16:9 aspect ratio for the first time since the original standard definition film was framed at 4:3 for TV.
The odds are now favorable that at some point in the future you’ll be able to own the entire remastered Sex and the City series on 4K Ultra HD.
When that might happen remains to be seen. Production on 10 episodes of the next chapter And Just Like That… gets underway this spring so the earliest that will premiere on HBO Max is in 2022.
That could be when the original Sex and the City 4K UHD release arrives, unless HBO wants to provide fans with an early Christmas gift opportunity.
