‘Sex and the City: The Next Chapter’ Getting 10 Episodes at HBO Max

Months of rumors and speculation have been officially confirmed: Sex and the City is coming back with 10 all-new episodes exclusively on HBO Max.

Dubbed simultaneously The Next Chapter and And Just Like That…, this pseudo Season 7 run of Sex and the City was revealed by Kristin Davis on her various social media channels. A teaser trailer accompanied the announcement with various shots of New York City.

You won’t see the cast in any footage yet because filming won’t get underway until sometime this spring. It does seem that scripts are about wrapped up and pre-production is likely in full swing.

Speaking of the cast, leads Sarah Jessica Parker, Kristin Davis and Cynthia Nixon will all reprise the roles of Carrie, Charlotte and Miranda, respectively.

Who won’t appear is Kim Cattrall as Samantha, the craziest character in the series. Cattrall had publicly spoken against returning to the role in an October 2017 Piers Morgan interview, and that proclamation appears to be holding true.

The question now remains: will Samantha be recast, or will a new core character be introduced and Samantha killed off? I would speculate the latter makes the most sense, though Samantha can be easily written off without being killed off.

Expect the Sex and the City revival to debut sometime in early-to-mid 2022.
