The 10th anniversary of LEGO Ninjago celebration got another bolt of the unexpected today. One that might partially explain why the upcoming 14th season is a 45-minute special rather than a full-blown season.
Sometime in the near future a series of five Ninjago Legacy Shorts will be released. Each short celebrates the legacy of Ninjago with Master Wu, Zane, Kai, Cole, Lloyd and Jay. Oddly enough no mention of Nya is made in the official announcement.
Per the trailer below is looks as if different art styles are being utilized for each short. These alternate animation-style experiments began in the Ice Chapter of Season 11 and now carry forward into their own dedicated short stories.
Some things you might spot in the trailer included a decimated Ninjago City with Borg Tower in the background, the Season 7 Time Twins battling young Wu in the animation style of Wil Film that may or may not finally resolve their incomplete story, Kai and Cole racing through Ninjago City at night, and an incredibly silly skit involving an outhouse and a large pink dragon.
The Ninjago fanbase’s age range has expanded as the series and LEGO toy line has. Each short appears to speak to a segment of that fandom; from the adults who grew up with the show to new youngsters meeting the ninja for the first time.
We’ll pass along each of the new Ninjago Legacy Shorts as they become available.
