When a motley crew of young aliens commandeer a Starfleet starship in the upcoming Paramount+ animated series Star Trek: Prodigy, they’ll have a hand to guide them on their (mis)adventures. Only it won’t be one they can necessarily touch or hold.
Star Trek: Prodigy co-showrunners Dan Hageman and Kevin Hageman revealed during yesterday’s Star Trek First Contact Day streaming event that Captain Kathryn Janeway (Kate Mulgrew) will be portrayed as an “emergency training hologram” in the series.
Though Star Trek: Prodigy is set in the year 2383, after the events of Star Trek: Voyager, Janeway’s hologram’s physical appearance will be younger rather than older. She’ll help the alien youngsters navigate the Delta Quadrant and learn Starfleet values along the way.

The Hageman Brothers also revealed that one of the alien main characters is connected to an alien seen in the Original Series. They also confirmed that, yes, the show will intersect at times with the greater Star Trek canon in exciting ways.

Look for Star Trek: Prodigy to arrive exclusively on Paramount+ later this year, followed afterward by a run on Nickelodeon.
