‘Game of Thrones’ Finale Ratings Set New Record for Second Straight Week

The sun has set on HBO’s Game of Thrones with a divisive series finale unsurprisingly setting multiple TV ratings records on Sunday night.

A total of 19.3 million viewers watched the Game of Thrones series finale on linear as well as the HBO GO and HBO NOW streaming services.

For comparison, the previous record was set only last week with the penultimate episode The Bells with 18.4 million viewers. That’s a single week increase of nearly 1 million viewers who wanted to see the big finale.

Another record toppled by Drogon and the human Game of Thrones players was the all-time single telecast record. This high mark was previously held by The Sopranos 2002 series finale at 13.4 million. The Iron Throne series finale episode attracted 13.6 million viewers in its first airing 9 pm EST time slot.

The final six Game of Thrones episodes have averaged 44.2 million viewers across all platforms and time slots. Season 7’s eight episodes averaged under 34 million.

Though no more Game of Thrones episodes are coming, this upcoming Sunday delivers The Last Watch; a two-hour documentary that deep dives into making Season 8.

Here’s a preview for The Last Watch.
