Downton Abbey fans here in the U.S. must be ecstatic as the series finale, the final episode every of the hit TV series, will premiere on PBS Masterpiece Theater tonight. Not exactly, unfortunately.
A big question many have wondered headed into today is this: is Downton Abbey Season 6 Episode 9 on tonight? The answer is no, but not because PBS is trying to deliberately make you suffer for an extra week. There’s a legitimate reason Downton Abbey is taking a week off.
Tonight happens to be the live broadcast of the Academy Awards aka The Oscars on ABC. That telecast will eat into the audience that normally watches Downton Abbey and vice versa. As a result, PBS is avoiding the potential ratings hit and pushed the series finale back.
The new premiere date for the Downton Abbey series finale is Sunday, March 6th at 9/8c. Set the DVR if you need to and watch something else tonight.
