Comedian and former footballer John Bishop has made the jump from Whovian to the actual TARDIS.
The Doctor Who New Year’s Special – Revolution of the Daleks ended with a teaser video that started off looking like an infomercial more than anything else. Then it slyly revealed Bishop as Dan, someone who appears to be a new companion of the Doctor, loading a truck and then being glimpsed in a brief series of quick flashes.
BBC offered a short description of how Dan will figure into Doctor Who Season 13: “As Dan becomes embroiled in the Doctor’s adventures, he will quickly learn there’s more to the Universe(s) than he could ever believe. Traveling through space and time alongside the Doctor and Yaz, he’ll face evil alien races beyond his wildest nightmares.”
“It’s time for the next chapter of Doctor Who, and it starts with a man called Dan,” offered showrunner Chris Chibnall. “Oh, we’ve had to keep this one secret for a long, long time. Our conversations started with John even before the pandemic hit. The character of Dan was built for him, and it’s a joy to have him aboard the TARDIS.”
Unfortunately Doctor Who Season 13 has only been in production since November. There’s still quite a bit of filming left so don’t expect the Season 13 premiere date to arrive until the latter half of 2021.
