When Zac Efron left the Footloose remake he sent a clear message to Hollywood. The high stepping teen idol days are a thing of the past.
Earlier today THR broke the story that Efron will star and produce ‘Snabba cash,’ a crime thriller based on the popular Swedish novel and film of the same name. Warner Bros. recently won a bidding war for the distribution rights for the US version.
In the film, Efron will play a money launderer who becomes a runner for a coke dealer in hopes of striking it rich. A total of three interconnected storylines will play out over the course of the film.
The Warner Bros. deal has a “short fuse” clause which puts pressure on the studio to get it into production asap. If they wait too long, the rights will revert to the producers and a new studio could become involved. The length of the fuse time is unknown.
Efron’s last wide release film, 17 Again for Warner Bros., grossed over $64 million at the box office.
