Darwin is the latest mutant added to director Matthew Vaughn’s X-Men: First Class roster and The Twilight Saga: New Moon actor Edi Gathegi has been tapped to fill his shoes.
The mutation Darwin is gifted with (or is that afflicted?) allows his body to physically adapt to its surroundings, no matter how harsh or seemingly uninhabitable they may seem. For example, if you chained Darwin 100 feet under the ocean surface he’d simply grow gills and enjoy some quiet time before help arrived.
Gathegi as Darwin grows an already crowded roster that includes James McAvoy as Xavier, Michael Fassbender as Magneto, Alice Eve as Emma Frost, Nicholas Hoult as Beast, Jennifer Lawrence as Mystique, Caleb Landry Jones as Banshee and Lucas Till as Havoc. The unnamed villain will be played by Kevin Bacon.
Filming for X-Men: First Class is expected to get underway very soon if it hasn’t already. The release date is June 3, 2011.
