Paramount and director Marc Forster’s World War Z starring and co-produced by Brad Pitt didn’t turn out to be the box office stinker many thought it would. Perhaps as a result we have been treated to an early pre-order opportunity to the zombie apocalypse film on Blu-ray 3D, Blu-ray and DVD.
Late last night, both Best Buy and Amazon.com began taking pre-orders for a Blu-ray 3D combo, Blu-ray combo, and DVD versions of World War Z. For the Blu-ray 3D combo, Amazon is using temp cover art which you can see below. I suspect the final cover art will end up similar to this mockup.
World War Z earned $66.4 million at the domestic box office this past weekend as it picked up steam and pushed projections higher with each passing day leading into its release. It became the highest opening film of Brad Pitt’s career. Thanks to a healthy and growing international box office, World War Z has now earned $112 million worldwide and continues to grow.
The early success of World War Z and international appear has led Paramount to begin pushing forward on a sequel. I am sure Pitt and Paramount would love to put World War Z 2 into theaters by the summer of 2015, but there are still many hurdles to overcome before the spry zombies swarm on the big screen again.
The expected World War Z Blu-ray release time frame is in either late September or early October. I will certainly pass along all developments regarding the home video release of World War Z as they occur.
