Wii U Gets Basic and Deluxe Packages, Price, TV, and Release Date

Wii U Gets Basic and Deluxe Packages, Price, TV, and Release DateNintendo this morning announced the Wii U price, release date, information regarding the launch window games, teased a future exclusive in Bayonetta 2, and unveiled Nintendo TVii in a direct play against Sony and Microsoft’s upcoming next generation home gaming consoles.

Nintendo TVii is going to require its own article so let’s focus on the Nintendo Wii U launch specifics right now. In North America, Wii U will arrive on store shelves beginning Sunday, November 18. There will be two packages available; a basic one in white that includes the console with 8DB of storage and GamePad controller, an a/c adapter for both, HDMI cable and sensor bar. This package will set you back $299.99.

The deluxe package is the black Wii U console and GamePad controller. This package ups the hard drive to 32GB and includes, in addition to everything the basic package includes, more memory, a GamePad charging cradle, stands for the GamePad and console, and the full Nintendoland game. In addition, those who purchase this package will automatically be enrolled in the deluxe digital promotion that will present points for every digital download that can then be used to purchase future digital downloads.

Notice neither package comes with a Wii-mote or Nunchuk controller. Nintendo assumes you own those already and all are compatible with Wii U.

Obviously the deluxe Wii U package offers more bang for the buck and that’s what Nintendo wants you to buy. Expect this one to sell out much faster than the basic Wii U package that is more geared toward casual gamers.

The only confirmed launch day games are New Super Mario Bros U and Nintendoland. It does not look like Pikmin 3 will be available at launch, though it could be out before Christmas. We just don’t know yet.

Look for more from us on Wii U throughout the day and, hopefully, the first online pre-orders.
