The PBS Masterpiece Theater series Downton Abbey has finally reached its penultimate episode in North America after first premiering in the U.K. last year. Mary’s suitors continue to apply the pressure for her hand when we watch Downton Abbey Season 4 Episode 7 online free live streaming or on PBS tonight in HD. Last week tensions between Mary and Blake were building up at an alarming rate when the pigs arrived on the scene. Blake thinks that Mary is incapable of putting in the work to properly farm the estate, and Mary finds out about Blake’s ill feelings towards her when Napier tells her what Blake said, including that she’s “aloof.” This stings Mary and she asks Anna whether she believes it.
Later on, Mary, Cora and Blake are on a walk when Blake discovers one of the newly arrived pigs looks ill. Blake immediately takes action and catches Mary off guard by jumping right into the pig pen after taking off his jacket and takes buckets of water to nourish the pigs. Blake is even more surprised when Mary jumps in to help.
The pair tend to the pigs well into the night and even when Mary falls down in the mud, she refuses help from Blake. Mary is determined to show Blake that she has what it takes to run the estate without her husband’s help. She refuses to leave when Blake asks her to, exclaiming that the pigs are her and it is her responsibility to take care of them. Flirting ensues, and Mary may have found the type of man she’s ultimately looking for.
The table is set for Mary to choose amongst her suitors. Clearly the chemistry is there with Blake, but she also has Napier and Gillingham’s advances to contend with. The choice is obvious for the audience, but Mary may either opt for the underdog or draw out the chase for her affections even longer.
Edith, meanwhile, tells Aunt Rosamund about all her problems including the pregnancy. She says she is going to seek an abortion, and Rosamund tries to talk her out of it. Edith will have nothing to do with changing her mind and the pair go to the clinic together. When Edith hears another woman yelling in the next room, she has a change of heart and declares the abortion a mistake, and calls it off.
The official synopsis for tonight’s new episode of Downton Abbey reads, “Robert and Thomas return from America, Bates makes a surprise trip to York, Edith prepares to go abroad, and suitors flock to Mary. Branson helps someone move on, and Rose makes her move.”
