Warner Brothers has released specs for the first four Blu-ray Disc films arriving August 1, which closely mirror those found on their HD-DVD counterparts – with one notable exception.
“Good Night, And Good Luck,” “Training Day,” “Rumor Has It” and “Kiss Kiss Bang Bang” will all be presented in 1080p video with Dolby Digital Plus 5.1 audio on BD-25 discs. Extra features will be identical to those found on HD-DVD and standard DVD, unlike Sony and Lionsgate’s decision to crop or exclude them altogether.
The only oddity in Warner’s strategy is “Training Day” will not include the Dolby TrueHD soundtrack available on the HD-DVD version. This decision may have been made to not degrade video quality in lieu of additional audio options, given the size restraints of 25GB discs versus the much-anticipated 50GB discs.
