Viggo Mortensen is currently in talks with Universal as the male lead in Snow White and the Huntsman, one of two Snow White films currently gestating in Hollywood.
Mortensen would play the Huntsman, a secondary character pushed to the forefront as Snow White’s mentor and protector. Michael Fassbender’s name had been circling the project but he’s now on board for Ridley Scott and Fox’s Prometheus.
Though the other key roles have yet to be filled, Universal and director Rupert Sanders are actively testing and expected to fill out the roster soon. Charlize Theron is the frontrunner to play the evil queen despite being attached to Prometheus, while multiple actresses including Emily Browning and Riley Keough are vying for the role of Snow White.
I was pulling for Mortensen to score the lead role in Ron Howard’s The Dark Tower film adaptation. He’ll likely do great as the Huntsman, especially after his last performances in Eastern Promises and The Road, but the role of cowboy Roland Deschain in The Dark Tower had is name written all over it.
